The essentials
  • Meta's Muse Code AI agent is now available for macOS and Linux.
  • Muse Spark 1.2 focuses on improving code generation and debugging.
  • The agent's local event log tracks model activity, helping developers after crashes.

Meta Unveils New Developer Tool Update

Meta introduced Muse Spark 1.2, a coding-focused update for developers using macOS and Linux. The tool includes a local event log that tracks model calls, edits, and other actions. This allows users to quickly recover after a crash.

New commands help with planning, stress-testing, and pursuing coding goals. The update enhances code generation, debugging, and long-term understanding of codebases. These improvements aim to streamline complex tasks. The latest version can also manage multiple sub-agents and delegate tasks to complete work more efficiently.

This follows Meta’s July launch of Muse Spark 1.1, which improved the model’s ability to handle multiple data types and introduced a paid API. In April, the company replaced its Llama model with the original Muse Spark.

Since then, Muse Spark has powered new image-generation features and expanded Meta’s AI app. The latest version continues Meta’s efforts to support developers with AI tools. Developers join with a pay-as-you-go option which charges $1.25 per million tokens in input and $4.25 per million tokens of output. Meta says the training included rejection-sampled harness trajectories and recipe optimizations for goals, compaction, and subagents. The company also announced a "contributor tier" that would cost $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.20 per million output tokens, requiring users to provide feedback to improve the coding agent. Meta's announcement includes sample projects like an interactive model of a photon sphere and a Plants vs. Zombies knockoff, and a demo video of the tool building a webpage based on an MP4 file.
