Students shift to mobile access for digital library resources
According to the 2025 Cyber Library Students Usage Report, 2,482 users, or nearly 63%, accessed Lucknow University’s Tagore Library through smartphones. This number is significantly higher than the 36.9% of users who used a web-based platform to reach the library’s resources. The data highlights a clear trend toward mobile-first behavior when it comes to accessing academic content. Over the two-year period, research scholars were the most frequent users, accounting for 35,588 e-resource downloads.
Law students dominate remote login activity
The faculty of law was the most active in using the remote access facility, with 6,117 login sessions in 2025. The next highest contributors were Bachelor of Science students with 4,600 sessions, followed by Master of Arts students with 3,740. MBA students recorded 3,508 login sessions, while Master of Science students came in with 3,092. A session is defined as a user staying logged in for at least 15 minutes. These statistics show a strong engagement from law and science students in particular.
ScienceDirect leads academic database usage
Among the digital databases available through the library, ScienceDirect saw the highest engagement with 8,368 user sessions. This was followed by SCC Online, which had 7,164 sessions, a popular legal and judicial database. Other notable platforms included Springer (4,742 sessions), Wiley (3,912), and Taylor & Francis (3,427). These figures point to a growing interest in science, technology, and law-related resources among students and scholars.
Despite the rising popularity of remote access, the physical library continues to be a key resource. Across the three cyber library labs, 94,382 student visits were recorded in 2025. Undergraduate students accounted for the largest portion, with 45,629 visits in Lab A alone. Postgraduate students logged 25,324 visits in Lab B, and research scholars made 23,429 visits in Lab C. These numbers show that while digital access is on the rise, the physical infrastructure still plays a vital role in supporting academic activities.
Prof. JP Saini, the university’s vice-chancellor, noted that the hybrid model is serving as a strong foundation for academic and research needs.
