Samsung prioritizes foldables with One UI 9 rollout
Samsung officially launched One UI 9 stable on July 22, 2026, but only for a select group of Galaxy users. The new update is rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8, all running on Android 17. This brings a mix of AI-based tools, improved security, and better privacy features. Yet not every Galaxy user can install the update right away. The Galaxy S26 series, for example, will have to wait for a later rollout.
Though the Galaxy Z8 series devices already have access to the stable version of One UI 9, the S26 series is not included yet. Users have been using beta versions of the software for a while now, but a public stable release for the S26 line is still out of reach. Samsung has not yet shared a release date for this group.
What’s new in One UI 9
One of the most notable additions in One UI 9 is the AI Assistant Activity dashboard. This feature functions similarly to the AI Privacy Dashboard seen in Android 17. It gives users a single view of all AI activities happening on their devices. From this dashboard, users can check what actions the AI is performing and quickly jump into specific settings to make changes or manage permissions.
Privacy remains a big focus with the update. Enhanced Privacy Alerts warn users about potential privacy threats. These alerts proactively notify them when an app tries to access unnecessary background permissions, allowing users to take action before any damage could occur.
For users transitioning from iPhone to Galaxy, the Smart Switch has improved. It now supports transferring data like passwords, passkeys, call history, accessibility settings, and eSIM data via a QR code. This method reduces the need for extra apps and speeds up the process of setting up a new device.
A new Warranty and Care hub is also part of the update. This hub gives users a centralized location to check their device’s warranty status, view diagnostic information, and request repairs. It aims to make support more accessible and user-friendly.
Foldable-specific features also make an appearance. My FanCam lets users automatically track a subject in video, adjusting the framing to their preferred aspect ratio. The Fold 8 Ultra gains Cine LUT, a tool for applying cinematic color grading to videos.
Now Brief, another security feature, provides users with insights into potential privacy and security risks. It helps them stay informed and take necessary protective actions.
When will Galaxy S26 users get One UI 9?
Samsung has not officially set a date for One UI 9 to reach the Galaxy S26 series, but based on past update patterns, it’s likely to follow the foldables. After the Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 receive the stable update, the next step would probably be the Galaxy S26 series. Then, the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 would come next. Older flagships and other devices will probably get the update last.
For now, Galaxy S26 users can only access the beta versions of One UI 9. Samsung is expected to share more details about the stable release schedule and a full breakdown of the update in the weeks to come.
