Tense Moments and Strategic Ride
Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Renegade started from 11 1/2 lengths back, creating a tense situation that ultimately led to a successful late charge. Renegade broke well from post 3 but faced early pressure from Silent Tactic. The race progressed with a clear gap between Renegade and Commandment, who was in third place as the race approached the turn. Ortiz had to wait and time his move carefully, knowing the distance was significant.
Renegade's team is hopeful that the colt will be able to challenge Golden Tempo in the upcoming Travers Stakes. Mike Repole, a co-owner, recognized Golden Tempo's current dominance in the 3-year-old race but remained optimistic about the potential for Renegade to perform well in the next event. As the race progressed, Commandment, who was racing with blinkers for the first time that day, began to close the gap under Flavien Prat. In the final moments of the race, Renegade made a bold move, swinging widest with powerful strides to make his final push. Chip Honcho tired along the inside, and Commandment dueled with a determined Silent Tactic. By the time Commandment cleared the competition, it was too late for Renegade to be caught, as he crossed the finish line half a length ahead, with a final time of 1:49.08.
Commandment finished two lengths ahead of Silent Tactic, who was returning from a more than four-month break. The final order of finish included Asked and Answered, who rounded out the race. This weekend proved to be a standout for Pletcher, who celebrated not just one but two significant victories, including the Amsterdam Stakes on Friday.
