The essentials
  • The rumored 'Pixel Glow' is now officially called 'HiLight' for the Pixel 11 series.
  • HiLight uses a dynamic LED to alert users to calls and Gemini chats when the phone is face-down.
  • Google is set to officially unveil the Pixel 11 in a week.

The name is no longer a leak. The 'Pixel Glow' feature, teased for months in Pixel 11 rumors, will now be called 'HiLight,' confirmed by a marketing image from the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The image, shared by Roland Quandt of WinFuture, shows the color-shifting LED on the rear camera module, replacing the traditional flash. The branding aligns with Google's early internal code and user findings.

According to a translated caption from the image, HiLight allows users to 'stay informed without looking at your screen.' When the phone is upside down, the LED will glow when favorite contacts call. The LED will also glow when the user is chatting with Gemini, Google's AI assistant. The description matches initial reports from April. Those reports detailed the feature’s functionality and purpose. A new app teardown of Google Contacts 4.85.26.956868485 reveals users can assign custom HiLight notification colors for individual contacts, with options like blue, cyan, green, and others, although no 'rainbow' option was found.

No other major details about HiLight have emerged at this stage. Google has not confirmed if the feature will come with further capabilities. But a full reveal is just days away. The official Pixel 11 launch event is scheduled to happen within a week. The company has time to build further hype. It also has time to clarify what else HiLight might offer beyond basic notifications.
