‘Fake news’ or just wrong numbers?
Nothing CEO Akis Evangelidis dismissed the claims as ‘fake news.’ He specifically said the company is not exiting global markets. He also said the original report had ‘inaccurate’ numbers on sales. The report had suggested the phone sold fewer than 20,000 units.
Layoffs confirmed but scaled back
Despite the denial of market exits, Evangelidis confirmed that layoffs were taking place, though not at the scale originally reported. The report had said as many as 40% of staff could be affected. Nothing called the number ‘way overblown’ and said it was reorganizing teams as part of a broader shift into AI and regional hubs.
The company is creating new business units, including one ‘AI-native,’ and is consolidating national teams into regional hubs. These moves, according to Evangelidis, are meant to prepare for the company’s next phase of growth.
