New Brunswick allocates CA$6 million to boost EV charging network
New Brunswick is investing CA$6 million to expand the province’s electric vehicle charging network. Of this total, CA$5 million will fund 16 new fast-charging stations through the eCharge system, targeting areas overlooked by private companies to improve access for EV drivers. The Energy Department will work with NB Power to install the stations and strengthen public charging availability.
Energy Minister René Legacy stressed that expanding fast-charging options is vital to making EVs more practical for residents. “It’s key to reducing range anxiety for electric vehicle drivers,” he said, noting that NB Power’s role in managing public charging plays a central role in cutting fossil fuel reliance and supporting the shift to cleaner transport.
Another CA$100,000 will install new charging points at provincial parks including République, Mactaquac, and Herring Cove, aiming to enhance the visitor experience and support regenerative tourism. The province is also allocating CA$955,000 to replace aging government vehicles with battery-electric models and build the necessary charging infrastructure.
Three regional EV charging hubs will be established in Moncton, Saint John, and Miramichi by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure. Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson said the effort seeks to keep the government fleet modern and eco-friendly, while cutting long-term maintenance and operating costs. “This funding will help expand our EV inventory and charging network,” he said, highlighting New Brunswick’s commitment to sustainable transport.
The investment addresses public EV charging needs and supports New Brunswick’s transition to cleaner transportation. By lowering emissions and reducing long-term expenses, the province aims to achieve environmental and economic goals in the years ahead.
