A Controversial First Round
During the first round, Magomedov repeatedly pulled Pereira's hair while in bottom position. Herb Dean, the referee, issued a warning to Magomedov but did not deduct any points for the infractions. Pereira contends that the repeated actions went unaddressed and should have been penalized.
The controversy continued in the third round when Magomedov accidentally eye-poked Pereira. Despite the incident occurring in front of the referee, no points were deducted. Pereira argues that these missed penalties significantly impacted the outcome of the fight and may have altered the trajectory of his career.
Following the fight, Pereira was not offered a contract renewal with the UFC. He now aims to challenge the decision through an appeal, insisting that the fight should have been ruled a draw had the hair pulls been properly penalized.
Despite the loss and his exit from the promotion, Pereira expressed appreciation for his time in the UFC. 'Everything happened the way it happened and I'm very grateful,' he said in an interview with Ignition Poker Brazil. He emphasized that he has no ill will toward the organization, acknowledging the memories he helped create for fans inside the Octagon. Pereira remains determined to have the result of his fight reviewed with the help of his legal team.
Pereira's career record is 32-15, with a losing streak of four fights in his last five bouts. His journey in the UFC leaves behind a complex legacy — one defined by pride in his accomplishments but also by unresolved questions about officiating and fairness.
