Android’s New AI Clock Feature in the Works for Pixel Phones
The latest Android Canary 2608 build has introduced code and user interface elements hinting at a new AI-generated lock screen clock feature. This upcoming tool is expected to arrive in Android 17 and will allow users to design personalized clock styles directly from AI prompts. It marks another step forward in integrating AI-powered customization into the Android experience.
Users will have access to a new 'Ideas' button, which is designed to offer suggested clock styles based on their preferences. Additionally, the feature allows them to upload images as a reference when crafting their AI-generated designs, giving them more creative control over the look of their lock screen.
Despite the visible UI in the build, the feature is not yet functional. Any attempt to use a prompt results in the message: 'Service not connected.' This indicates the server-side implementation is still in progress. Google may enable the feature in the future once it’s ready for users.
While the AI clock feature is in testing, its official release date remains unclear. The Canary build also brings a Quick Settings layout editor. This tool allows users to customize the order of Quick Settings tiles. It also lets users adjust the brightness slider and manage the media player layout. It offers further personalization options for Android users.
