The unanimous decision win placed her at No. 6 in the Meta UFC Rankings at 115 pounds, a climb of eight spots from her previous position at No. 14. With this momentum, Kline is now setting her sights on a high-profile matchup, specifically a challenge against Zhang Weili, the former UFC strawweight champion.
During an exclusive interview with MMAjunkie.com’s Nolan King, Kline made her intentions clear. She argued that a fight against Zhang would be the perfect step in her career. According to Kline, this matchup would not only test her skills against one of the division’s most experienced fighters but also help her climb closer to the title picture.
“Zhang Weili would be the perfect person to put me right in line to beat and get a title shot after,” Kline said. She noted that many fans and analysts see Zhang as the next big challenge for her, and she’s eager to prove those perceptions wrong. Kline’s confidence stems from her recent success and the belief that she can overcome the former champion.
Zhang hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since her December 2023 defeat at UFC 322, where she faced Valentina Shevchenko in a failed title challenge at flyweight. Kline herself was part of that event’s undercard, where she earned a decision win over Angela Hill. Observing Zhang’s performance in that fight, Kline believes the former champion is beatable and ready to take her on in a potential 115-pound matchup.
“If she decides to come back to 115, I’d love to welcome her back,” Kline remarked, suggesting she’s closely monitoring Zhang’s career decisions. A victory in such a matchup would likely position her for a shot at current strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern.
