EVgo, a major public fast charging provider, is enhancing its network by incorporating Tesla’s V4 Supercharger technology. The new charging stations are set to become operational by the end of 2026 and will deliver charging speeds of up to 500 kW. This expansion aims to increase access to high-power charging in key urban areas across the United States.
Faster charging and improved planning
Equipped with Tesla’s latest V4 Supercharger system, the upgraded stations will allow compatible EVs to add up to 200 miles of driving range in just 15 minutes. Tesla owners will also benefit from direct integration with the vehicle's navigation system. This feature enables the Trip Planner to automatically direct drivers to available EVgo Supercharger locations, improving overall efficiency and convenience.
Expanding access with Magic Dock
Each new EVgo site will feature Tesla’s Magic Dock, which allows both North American Charging Standard (NACS) and Combined Charging System (CCS) vehicles to charge without using an adapter. The company is also installing longer charging cables at each location to better accommodate the varied charging port placements found on different EV models. This design change enhances overall accessibility and simplifies the charging process for a broader range of electric vehicles.
EVgo has seen significant demand for its services, with public charging usage growing by over 700% in the past three years. This surge reflects the rapid adoption of electric vehicles nationwide. According to Badar Khan, EVgo’s CEO, the deployment of Tesla V4 Superchargers makes public fast charging more convenient and accessible for EV drivers nationwide. In parallel, the company is advancing the development of its next-generation charging platform. This work is being conducted at EVgo’s Innovation Lab in El Segundo, California, with initial installations expected to launch before the end of this year.
