BYD Unveils New Denza Z9S with Record-Breaking Range of 1,100 km on a Single Charge
Chinese electric vehicle leader BYD has revealed the Denza Z9S, claiming a groundbreaking range of 1,100 km (683 miles) on a single charge. This figure, derived from China's CLTC testing cycle, is often higher than results from standards used in other parts of the world.
The Denza Z9S is offered in three configurations, each with a different range: 780 km, 920 km, and the top-of-the-line 1,100 km. All versions are powered by a 102.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. It is essential to note that direct comparisons with electric vehicles in different regions should consider the variance in testing protocols.
BYD highlights the rapid charging capabilities of the Denza Z9S, with the vehicle able to charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes. The company's second-generation Blade Battery technology further allows a 10% to 97% charge in approximately nine minutes, promising minimal downtime for drivers.
The Denza Z9S offers two power options: a single-motor variant generating 496 horsepower and a tri-motor flagship delivering a massive 1,193 horsepower. Each model also includes a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, enhancing the car's advanced driver assistance features.
The interior design follows the popular trend among premium Chinese EVs, with multiple large digital displays dominating the dashboard.
Priced around $47,100 in China, the Denza Z9S aims to strike a balance between performance and practicality. According to CNEVPost, Denza General Manager Li Hui described the car's range as something 'not meant to be remembered, but to be forgotten,' suggesting that drivers might no longer have to frequently consider when they need to recharge.
While the Denza Z9S's 1,100 km range under CLTC is among the highest for any production electric vehicle, this may equate to about 772 km (480 miles) when measured under the US EPA testing cycle. That still places it in the upper echelon of long-range EVs, though it falls slightly short of the Lucid Air Grand Touring's EPA-certified 824 km (512 miles).
