The essentials
  • The Apple Watch Series 12 is likely to include a new chip, after no new chip was introduced with the Series 11.
  • Rumors suggest the Series 12 could offer longer battery life than the current model, which lasts up to 24 hours.

Just two months away from its expected release, the Apple Watch Series 12 has been the subject of several leaks and rumors. These include a new chip, longer battery life, and even the possible return of Touch ID.

What We Know So Far

The Apple Watch Series 11, Ultra 3, and SE 3 all use the same S10 chip as their predecessors. But a leak of Apple code suggests the Series 12 will feature a new chip—though it's unclear whether it will be branded as the S11 or S12. The chip is expected to bring performance improvements after a one-year pause in upgrades.

Battery life is another point of interest. A leaker on Weibo claimed Apple is focusing on making the Series 12 last longer on a single charge. The current Series 11 offers up to 24 hours of normal use or 38 hours in Low Power Mode.

Still in Question

Touch ID could return for the first time since the original Apple Watch models. If the feature appears, it might be embedded in the side button, letting users unlock the watch using their fingerprint instead of a passcode. However, this remains unconfirmed, as some leakers have dismissed the idea and no official reports from trusted sources have mentioned it.

Another curious possibility is that the Series 12 might include a health sensor built into the band itself.
