Apple Notes in iOS 27 gets more structured
For long-time Apple Notes users, iOS 27 brings welcome updates to help manage more complex notes. Among them is a new feature: divider lines. These can be added by tapping at the desired point in a note, opening the edit menu, and selecting the 'Insert Divider Line' option. This addition makes it easier to visually separate sections within a single note, especially for people who use the app for project management or detailed documentation.
Along with divider lines, iOS 27 now supports section links. If you've ever struggled to navigate a long note, this is for you. With the 'Link to Section' option in the edit menu, you can create hyperlinks directly to headings or subheadings inside the same note, allowing for easier navigation similar to a table of contents.
Siri AI helps you stay in the flow
One of the standout upgrades in iOS 27 is the improved integration between Siri and Apple Notes. You can now use Siri to add text to a note, either by voice command or by having it pull in data from a previous answer. For example, if you ask Siri a question in the Siri app and it returns a list, you can tell Siri to reformat it and insert it directly into a new note or an existing one. This kind of hands-free note editing is a big step forward for users who want to keep moving without switching apps.
Markdown support gets more powerful
Apple Notes now supports full Markdown formatting in iOS 27. When you paste Markdown-formatted text into a note, it automatically converts to rich text without any extra steps. And if you want to copy your note content as Markdown, you can do so directly from the edit menu with the new 'Copy as Markdown' option. This makes it easier to transfer between writing tools, especially for anyone who writes online content or works with plain-text formatting.
Along with Markdown improvements, the new iOS 27 version also enhances Apple's Image Playground feature inside the Notes app. This lets users generate AI-powered images directly from their notes, using a new model capable of photorealistic results. These images automatically include a hidden SynthID watermark to show they were created with AI.
Smaller visual updates include a refreshed app icon, Liquid Glass effects on buttons and menus, and new blue icons for shared folders and notes. These subtle UI changes add up to make Apple Notes in iOS 27 feel more polished and modern.
