The ProTour Qualifiers
Andy Boulton is currently holding the last, 40th position on the ProTour Order of Merit with a total of £24,000 in earnings, based on his performance in 26 out of 34 Players Championships and 10 of 15 European Tours. Looking ahead, with just eight more events left in the season, the expected cut-off is estimated at £31,500. Players who have already surpassed £33,000 are now in a strong position to secure their spots for the World Championships in December. This has opened the door for exciting newcomers like Tom Sykes and Tom Bissell to qualify for the event for the very first time.
Maik Kuivenhoven, who narrowly missed the cut in the last two seasons, is finally back on track to compete at Ally Pally. His return brings hope to fans and highlights the competitive nature of the ProTour system. In a similar story, Wales’s Rob Owen is also set to return to the big stage after a challenging year. Last winter, Owen nearly lost his Tour Card and had to rely on performing well from his living room to keep his position. Now, with a place in the final 40 confirmed, he has a chance to make an impact at the prestigious venue.
So far, 27 spots for the World Championships have been confirmed, but the remaining positions are still up for grabs in what is shaping up to be a tense battle. Players such as Jimmy van Schie and David Sharp are among the hopefuls vying for a place, though none have yet set foot at Alexandra Palace. On the other hand, five-time World Champion Raymond van Barneveld, who is currently ranked 41st, will need a strong finish to his season to get back on the big stage for a twentieth time. Meanwhile, Ally Pally favorite Scott Williams is in a tough spot, sitting in 66th place with £18,000 in his total. Both will need to make a significant push in their remaining events to move above the critical cutoff line.
With just eight events remaining in the schedule, the pressure is mounting for those still in contention. Many players won’t be competing in the European Tours, meaning they have fewer opportunities to improve their standings. The final stretch of the season will be a true test of consistency and skill, as the remaining spots are highly contested.
This year’s qualification process has already brought in several debutants who have shown their potential through strong performances on the ProTour. Players like Darryl Pilgrim and Joe Hunt, who previously competed on the Challenge Tour, have proven they can step up to the next level. Hunt, in particular, has impressed with his success in the ProTour format, making his inclusion in the World Championships a well-earned recognition.
As the countdown continues to the end of the qualification period, the ProTour Order of Merit remains a key factor for players outside the main Order of Merit.
