Lenny Schlüter, a 17-year-old dart player from Dannenberg, recently made headlines by securing his first tournament win on the PDC-Development-Tour in Hildesheim. The victory came with a prize money of 3000 British pounds, equivalent to nearly 3500 euros. For Schlüter, this achievement marked a significant milestone in his young career.
The weekend was a standout for Schlüter, as he advanced through multiple rounds with impressive performances. On Friday and Saturday, he reached the semifinals, showcasing his talent early in the competition. By Sunday, he had clinched the title after defeating several formidable opponents. His journey to the top included notable victories over Nathan Potter and Yorick Hofkens, the tournament’s defending champion, in the quarterfinals.
One of the most crucial matches for Schlüter was against Yorick Hofkens in the quarterfinals. There, he played what he called his best match of the event. However, he expressed frustration over missing a match-dart, which led to his average dropping to 90 instead of the 107 he aimed for. This match set the stage for his path to the finals.
The final featured a showdown with Henry Coates, who had recently won a professional tournament and was considered a strong favorite. Coates initially led the match 4:2 and even had two match-darts, but Schlüter managed to turn the tide. His 170-check in the final rounds proved decisive, breaking Coates’ momentum. In the deciding leg, Schlüter hit the double 18, sealing his victory with his highest finish of the event.
For Schlüter, the win felt surreal. He described it as his biggest success so far and admitted the achievement hadn’t fully sunk in yet. Reflecting on the match, he said, “Mein bisher größter Erfolg,” highlighting the emotional weight of the victory.
