Cameron Menzies: From Outburst to Fine
Cameron Menzies' aggressive outburst during the PDC World Darts Championship in December led to more than just physical pain and public embarrassment. After his loss in the opening round of the tournament at Alexandra Palace to bricklayer Charlie Manby, the 37-year-old darts player was seen repeatedly hitting a table in a fit of anger. The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has now made public the consequences of his actions: a £2,500 fine and a four-month suspension. This is set to take effect in January 2027. The incident, which quickly became a viral sensation, left Menzies with cut knuckles and an urgent trip to the hospital.
The disciplinary consequences followed a hearing on 19 January. Should Menzies violate the DRA code in the coming months, the ban could become active, putting his career at risk. Although the incident overshadowed his performance, Menzies earned £15,000 for making it to the first round. Since then, he has recovered well, rising to 26th in the PDC world rankings and reaching the semi-finals of the PDC World Cup of Darts representing Team Scotland.
More Darts Players in Disciplinary Records
The DRA's 2023-2026 disciplinary report also highlights several other high-profile players. Gary Anderson, a two-time world champion, received the largest fine on the list: £3,000 for aggressive and abusive behavior during the 2025 World Matchplay in Blackpool. Of this, £1,000 is suspended until September 2026. Raymond van Barneveld, a five-time world title winner, escaped a more severe penalty with a formal warning. This came after failing to report damage to a hotel room during a Players Championship event in Germany in May 2025.
Rob Cross, a former world champion, was fined £500 after cameras recorded him making an offensive gesture. This happened at the 2024-25 PDC World Championship in Alexandra Palace. Cross also received a formal warning for his future conduct. Gerwyn Price was hit with one of the more significant fines — £1,000 — for failing to complete a match. He also posted comments on social media during a Pro Tour event on 12 February 2024. The report also includes John Morris, an amateur player. He received a six-month ban (suspended until September 2026) for being in possession of a class A drug at an ADC Vault event in March.
The DRA's disciplinary code also includes fines for minor breaches. Players can be charged between £100 and £500 for actions such as carelessly discarding a dart. They can also be charged for failing to mark their throw or using foul language. This is toward opponents or officials. These penalties show how the sport maintains a strict focus on professional conduct. This is both on and off the stage.
