  • As participações em Bitcoin da empresa caíram para US$ 2,1 bilhões em valor justo em 30 de junho.

The Bitcoin mining firm MARA experienced a dramatic shift in its financial performance, recording a net loss of $611.3 million during the second quarter of 2026. This marked a stark contrast to its earlier profitability, as the company's revenue plummeted despite achieving a 3% increase in its Bitcoin production for the quarter. The main factor behind the revenue decline was a 28% drop in the average Bitcoin price, which overshadowed the gains from higher mining output.

The loss amounted to $1.60 per diluted share, a significant decrease from the $808.2 million net income, or $1.84 per diluted share, recorded in the second quarter of 2025. During the most recent quarter, MARA managed to mine 2,422 Bitcoin, setting a new high for its quarterly production in over a year. These figures were revealed in the company’s 10-Q SEC filing, highlighting a notable change in its financial trajectory.

During an earnings call, MARA's Chief Financial Officer, Salman Khan, outlined the two main factors that shaped the second quarter. He noted the firm used this period to undergo a major transformation in both its power portfolio and capital structure. However, he also emphasized that the falling Bitcoin prices created a tough and unpredictable revenue environment for the company.

While navigating the downturn in Bitcoin prices, MARA is aggressively pushing into high-performance computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure. In February, the company took a significant step by acquiring a majority stake in Exaion SaS, a provider of secure cloud and high-performance computing data centers. At the same time, MARA formed a strategic partnership with Starwood Capital Group and its digital ventures division to repurpose certain sites for enterprise, hyperscale, and AI clients.

Looking ahead, MARA has set an ambitious target of securing at least two AI or high-performance computing leases by the end of the year. CEO Fred Thiel shared his confidence in the company’s progress during the earnings call, stating that lease discussions are advancing across several locations.

In July, the company also made headlines by agreeing to purchase a 1,200-acre powered land site in Matagorda County, Texas. The site is expected to come online with up to 2 gigawatts of energy capacity by April 2028. MARA plans to develop this property to accommodate AI and HPC operations alongside its ongoing Bitcoin mining activities.

Despite its growing focus on AI, MARA reaffirmed its commitment to Bitcoin mining as the core of its operations. In a letter to shareholders, CEO Fred Thiel underscored the importance of mining in providing the financial stability needed to fund the company’s expansion into new sectors.

Additionally, MARA is preparing for a major acquisition in Ohio by acquiring Long Ridge Energy & Power for $1.5 billion. This deal could ultimately offer up to 600 megawatts of power for AI and essential IT operations in the future.

As of the end of June 2026, MARA held a total of 35,577 Bitcoin, ranking it among the top four public Bitcoin holders. The value of these holdings stood at $2.1 billion, reflecting the company's substantial stake in the cryptocurrency.

“Two things defined Q2 for MARA. Bitcoin prices created a challenging revenue environment [and] we used the quarter to fundamentally transform our power portfolio and capital structure.”
