Fritz on Ankermann's 2026/27 outlook

Henning Fritz offered insights into the challenges facing Rasmus Ankermann, the young playmaker for THW Kiel, as the 2026/27 season approaches. Last season, Ankermann consistently stepped into key roles whenever experienced players were unavailable, showing impressive maturity and determination. Fritz acknowledged his efforts, noting how the 19-year-old became a driving force in crucial moments, especially during one-on-one plays. However, the new season is expected to bring intensified competition. THW Kiel now has a stronger lineup in the playmaker position, including Domen Makuc, Elias Ellefsen, Domagoj Duvnjak, and Ankermann himself. According to Fritz, how much time Ankermann gets on the court will largely depend on injuries and the team’s overall condition at any given time.

Ankermann has already set a strong foundation for his future by proving his capability and commitment during the previous season. Fritz praised the young player's performance and emphasized that he has every right to expect playing opportunities. “He has earned his chance,” Fritz said. “He should get every opportunity to play freely. From my point of view, there's nothing better than this scenario for him.”

Fritz stopped short of supporting the idea of a potential loan for Ankermann, calling the discussions too premature. He pointed out that the team did not have enough players last season, and now, the idea of moving players due to overabundance seems unnecessary. THW Kiel’s management has also ruled out panic sales in the current market window, which remains open until February. Whether the club makes further transfers will depend on how Skipagötu recovers from his injury and how Ankermann fits into the team dynamics. Until then, there’s no urgent need to send him out on loan, Fritz concluded.

“Ich glaube, eine bessere Situation gibt es nicht.”
The other side

THW Kiel's management has ruled out emergency sales, and the club's focus remains on stability through the February transfer window.
