San Diego dominates in the final
In the gold medal match against Chile at the 2026 FISU America Games, the University of San Diego volleyball team delivered a commanding performance, winning 25-19, 25-12, 28-26. The final marked the culmination of a perfect five-match run for the Toreros, who never lost more than one set in a night and never needed a fifth set. The victory secured a gold medal for the team, highlighting their dominance throughout the tournament.
She recorded 35 assists and 11 digs in the final without a single setting error. Her overall performance was outstanding, as she handed out 180 assists with just two errors across the entire week. The offense behind her hit .311, with .455 in the first set alone.
Chile fights back in the third set
Chile put up a stronger fight in the third set, the only one of the tournament for San Diego to go past 25 points. Despite this challenge, the Toreros closed the match with a 28-26 win. Kierstyn Barton led the team with 13 kills and 13 digs, earning her a double-double for the third time in the Games.
Nemo Beach contributed 12 kills and a team-high 18 serve-receive attempts, while Meghan Scholz added 8-for-10 hitting at the net, two aces, and played a role in four blocks. BayLea Sparks was in on six blocks and hit .417.
Dominance across the entire tournament
San Diego finished the FISU America Games with a perfect 5-0 record, winning 15 of 17 sets. The Toreros out-hit their opponents, hitting .311 for the tournament while limiting their five opponents to just .079. None of the teams San Diego faced managed to hit above .173 in any match.
Barton’s 58 kills led the team, with a hitting efficiency of .355, 48 digs, and six aces. Scholz recorded a remarkable .577 hitting efficiency on 52 swings and was never below .375 in a match. Sparks hit .426, while Emma Brewer combined 44 kills with 36 digs and no service errors. Lynch led the team in digs with 56 and passed .905 in 74 receptions.
