Trevin McKim swung hard, aiming for a home run that would have cut the lead in half. He thought the ball was gone, but it struck the wall in right field. Urbandale led 6-3 in the fifth inning at Holder Field.
McKim was ready for another chance to change the game. His team had fallen behind by six, but they found their groove in the next two innings. Ottumwa came within one swing of tying the game.
With McKim waiting to hit again, Kameron Fager stepped to the plate in the sixth. Cormac McComs struck Fager out. Lane Hinebaugh stood at third, but the rally died. Urbandale won 8-6. Coach Brad Scott said his players showed grit. "They started chopping away," he said. "They never say die." Urbandale now plays Grandview on Wednesday. The winner faces Davenport Northwest for the title. Ottumwa ends the season against LeMars.
