A jersey with a national message
On 22 August, the Springboks will step onto the Ellis Park pitch in a jersey unlike any they have worn before. Designed with Nike's collaboration, the garment carries the full text of South Africa's national anthem, Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika, printed in the shape of the national flag across the chest. The words appear in isiXhosa, isiZulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans and English, representing the unity and diversity of the nation they represent.
This jersey marks the start of a four-Test series against New Zealand, the first full tour between the two sides in 30 years. It is more than a performance tool — it is a statement. He called it a garment that 'speaks directly and honestly to the motivation of the team and management.'
Engineered for elite performance
Though it is a symbolically rich piece of clothing, the jersey is also built with Nike’s athlete-first design philosophy. It uses Nike FIT ADV technology — a combination of lightweight fabric, precise construction and athlete feedback — to ensure mobility, adaptability and performance for high-intensity rugby play.
Every element, from the sleeve cut to the ventilation patterns, is designed to support the speed and movement the Springboks have become known for under coach Rassie Erasmus. The jersey is not a distraction from the physical demands of the game; it is built to meet them.
Limited availability and high demand
The jersey will be available in three price points to the public starting on 6 August. It will be sold online through Nike’s platform and at select Springbok retail stores in Sandton, Menlyn Park and Canal Walk. The design is expected to be in high demand, as it captures the essence of South Africa’s national pride and the Springboks’ role in representing it.
Nike and SA Rugby are positioning the garment as both a collectible and a tribute. It is a physical reminder of what the team symbolizes — and what millions of South Africans feel when they see them in action.
