You no longer need to switch to your phone to save a funny GIF or image you come across while using your smartwatch. Samsung has added a new download feature to its Browser app for Wear OS. Now, users can save files directly to their watch, provided they are under 10MB and in compatible formats like PNG, JPG, or GIF.
The process is straightforward. While using the app to browse the web, simply long-press on an image to bring up the 'Download image' option. Once selected, the app stores the image in the watch’s internal storage within a dedicated 'Downloads' folder. The browser also includes a new 'Downloads' section on the home screen, allowing users to easily access and manage their saved content.
There is a limitation, however. The browser only displays thumbnails of downloaded images. To view the full image, users must use a third-party app, such as a gallery or file manager. Additionally, the app allows users to delete individual items or multiple files at once by long-pressing on the thumbnails. This adds more convenience to managing the downloaded content.
The update is already available for users who own Samsung smartwatches and run Wear OS. All it takes is updating the Samsung Browser app to the latest version. From there, saving images and GIFs from the web directly to your wearable becomes possible, with no need for a phone to intervene.
