The sound of cleats slapping grass at the Seahawks training facility in Renton carried an electric edge Saturday as players pushed harder through the heat of late July. For second-year tight end Elijah Arroyo, the session was turning into a breakout day.
According to Seahawks insider Brady Henderson of ESPN, Arroyo was the standout performer in the offense's first full padded practice of training camp. He flashed his potential in a red zone drill, scoring on a high-point fade and a toe-tapper in the back of the end zone.
Arroyo didn't slow down in the team period that followed. Sam Darnold found him wide open downfield for another touchdown. The performance built on Friday's work, when Arroyo caught a long pass from backup quarterback Jalen Milroe, showing consistency in his development.
Arroyo's stats from last season — 15 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown — suggested he had more to offer. With starting tight end AJ Barner, the pair could become a potent 12 personnel threat for the Super Bowl champions.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks are transitioning to new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury. The former Las Vegas Raiders assistant will face the challenge of molding the offense after replacing Klint Kubiak, who took the Raiders head coaching role.
