Eastwood said he found this behavior alarming. He opted to stay away from LaBeouf to avoid being pulled into the same intense mindset. 'I thought to myself, this guy is crazy,' he said. He added that while he respected method acting, he believed it was possible to give a strong performance. He thought it could be done without pushing boundaries so far.

He warned LaBeouf, 'I’m going to whoop your a--,' before others on set stepped in. They stopped the confrontation from turning physical.
