Rainey's historic bronze

23-year-old taxi driver Caitlin Rainey claimed a bronze medal in women's boxing, Scotland's first in the sport, despite a split-decision loss to Northern Ireland's Kaci Rock at the SEC. Rainey controlled the first round but was overtaken in the second by a decisive hit from Rock, who carried that momentum into a narrow third-round victory.

Rainey expressed pride in her achievement and hopes for the future, telling BBC Sport Scotland, “I'm proud of myself and I hope I've made my family proud.” Despite the loss, she believes her performance can inspire the next generation of Scottish fighters to chase a gold medal.

Final day disappointments

With Rainey's bronze secured, 21-year-old Sonny Kerr and 23-year-old Robert McNulty were the last hopes for Scottish boxing gold on Saturday. Both fell short in semi-finals. Kerr lost to Jon McConnell of Northern Ireland in the 70kg division, while McNulty lost to England's Isaac Okoh in the 90kg class.

Kerr admitted his loss felt like a missed opportunity. “Fights like that are about tactics,” he said. “I didn’t get them right, so it definitely feels like gold or silver lost.” McNulty was too upset to speak immediately after his loss and broke down in tears upon reuniting with his teammates.

Three bronzes, no gold for Scotland

Scotland's young boxing team ends the Commonwealth Games with three bronze medals but no gold or silver. Rainey, Kerr, and McNulty's performances—though commendable—fell short of the podium's top step.

“I'm proud of myself and I hope I've made my family proud.”
