Samsung has launched its first credit card in the US, the Galaxy Card, marking a strategic step into the branded financial services market. This new Visa card is similar to Apple’s Apple Card and is designed to incentivize purchases within Samsung’s ecosystem. The Galaxy Card offers 5% cashback on purchases made directly from Samsung, such as smartphones and accessories, and 3% cash rewards on transactions made through Samsung Wallet. These incentives aim to deepen customer loyalty and drive sales of Samsung products.

Rewards structure favors Samsung ecosystem users

The card provides a tiered rewards system that benefits frequent users of Samsung’s services and platforms. Cardholders earn 2% cashback on select streaming services like Disney Plus, Netflix, and Spotify. All other purchases earn a base rate of 1% cashback. Additionally, cardholders who spend $2,000 within the first 90 days receive a $200 cash reward. The Galaxy Card also offers a 20% discount on Samsung’s VIP Advantage program, with further 5% cash rewards when purchasing or renewing membership.

Designed for Galaxy users, works with Samsung Wallet

The Galaxy Card is built to work seamlessly with Samsung devices, particularly Samsung Wallet. It can be instantly added to the wallet app, giving users the ability to make secure payments and earn rewards from a Galaxy smartphone. The card is available in two formats: a virtual card for digital use and a premium black metal physical card. This integration aims to provide a convenient and unified user experience for Samsung customers.

Card application opens this week

Samsung is opening the application process for the Galaxy Card beginning on July 20, with general availability set to start on July 22. The company has confirmed there is no annual fee for the card, which may serve as an added appeal for existing Samsung users. As a Visa card issued through Barclays US, it is positioned to compete in the digital finance landscape by combining financial incentives with the convenience of Samsung’s ecosystem.

“The Galaxy Card is the company’s first credit card in the US, adding that it’s a Visa card issued by Barclays US.”
