Raúl Asencio's potential summer move from Real Madrid appears to have taken a major setback after the 23-year-old center-back sustained a hamstring injury during training. The injury, which sidelined him immediately, now keeps him out of action until at least September.

Earlier in the summer, it seemed certain that Asencio would be one of the young talents departing the club. He was among those being considered for a sale following his exclusion from head coach Jose Mourinho's 2026-27 plans. The idea was to use the transfer to pursue a new center-back, with Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni being the prime target.

However, those plans are now shifting as Real Madrid officially confirmed the injury on Monday. Medical tests showed a strain in the rectus femoris of his right leg. Football journalist Arancha Rodriguez later reported that the recovery is expected to take around six weeks, which would likely bring Asencio back to training in early September.

Unfortunately for Real Madrid, this timeline makes it impossible for him to be available for any potential transfer during the remainder of the summer window. Clubs typically won't wait until late September, so any interest in Asencio is now on hold. For now, he remains at the club despite the original intention to move him.

While the injury might still allow the club to pursue a new defender, it is clear that once Asencio returns, he is unlikely to see regular playing time. With Mourinho having already left him out of long-term plans, the situation for the La Fabrica graduate remains uncertain.
