The essentials
  • MI London posted 164-5 after a strong start with Will Jacks scoring 65.
  • Pretorius smashed 64 off 28 balls, including three fours and seven sixes, anchoring Spirit's run chase.
  • Spirit secured the win with 11 deliveries to spare, moving up to sixth in the standings.
  • MI London remain in fourth place, with two wins and two losses so far in the tournament.

London Spirit secured their first victory in the season's Hundred with a decisive performance led by Lhuan-dre Pretorius. The South African, who had been involved in a hard collision with James Coles during fielding for MI London, returned to the field to open the batting and turned the match around with an explosive 64 from 28 deliveries. His impact proved crucial in steering Spirit to an easy seven-wicket victory.

MI London's early momentum lost

MI London had a solid start in their batting innings, with openers Will Jacks and James Vince forging a 91-run partnership. Jacks, who was the standout performer with 65, combined with Vince (26) to set the foundation for the innings. However, the momentum quickly stalled as three quick wickets fell in the space of eight balls, leaving MI London at 100-3. Jacks and Nicholas Pooran were both dismissed by Jamie Overton, who continued to trouble MI's batting line-up later in the innings.

Pretorius dominates with bat

Pretorius made an immediate impact in the Spirit's chase, opening the innings and forming a 63-run partnership with Jonny Bairstow, who contributed 23. Pretorius was caught by Sherfane Rutherford off Richard Gleeson's delivery with the score at 165-3, but the damage was done.

Spirit finish strongly to clinch victory

With Pretorius' foundation in place, James Rew and Dewald Brevis wrapped up the chase with 11 balls to spare. Brevis was particularly clinical, hammering 37 from 18 balls as Spirit comfortably reached the target. MI London tried to add pressure in the final stages, with Rutherford posting a rapid 41 from just 19 deliveries, including four sixes, but he was dismissed by Andrew Tye in the final over. London Spirit now move to sixth in the standings, while MI London remain in fourth with two wins and two losses.
