The Hong Kong garrison of the People’s Liberation Army held a reception on Saturday to commemorate the 99th anniversary of its founding. The event took place at the Ngong Shuen Chau Barracks on Stonecutters Island. Rear Admiral Lai Ruxin, the garrison's political commissar, addressed the gathering.
Lai stated that the garrison would continue to expand its role in education and defense. He emphasized the importance of loyalty to the Communist Party of China and compliance with the Basic Law. The garrison's duties are carried out under the 'one country, two systems' principle.
Lai also highlighted the garrison’s role in defending Hong Kong’s safety and prosperity. He said the garrison would work to promote patriotism and defense education in the region. The garrison acts according to the laws of the People's Republic of China.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu attended the reception. He praised the garrison for its contributions to Hong Kong’s social stability. Lee said the garrison has provided strong backing since Hong Kong's return to China.
Lee noted the garrison’s support for the Hong Kong government in accordance with the law. He said the PLA has safeguarded the region's national sovereignty. Lai reiterated the garrison's commitment to absolute loyalty and responsibility.
