Olympic champion Allison Schmitt and her husband Gavin Walker revealed on social media last week that they're expecting their first child together. The announcement came with a photo showing Schmitt's visible baby bump, marking a new phase in the swimmer’s life after decades in the sport.
The couple first met in 2022 and quickly built a strong bond. In December 2024, they made their relationship official with an engagement, followed by a wedding in Arizona a year later.
A Legacy in the Water
Schmitt’s Olympic journey began when she was just 18 years old at the Beijing Games in 2008. Over the next decade, she became one of the most decorated swimmers in U.S. history, collecting four gold, three silver, and three bronze medals.
Her standout Olympic performances came in London 2012, where she won gold in the 200-meter freestyle and both freestyle relays. Known for her versatility, Schmitt competed at an elite level for 16 years, earning her spot in the pool through sheer determination and talent.
After retiring from competitive swimming in 2024, Schmitt joined BSN Sports as the honorary chief empowerment officer for SURGE, a program designed to inspire more women in sports.
Gavin Walker, meanwhile, has been steadily climbing the coaching ladder. At Vanderbilt, he supports the men’s tennis and volleyball programs. Before that, he worked at Arizona State, training swimmers, volleyball players, and beach volleyball teams.
As the pair prepares for the arrival of their first child, they remain focused on building a family while carrying forward the same energy and ambition that defined their careers.
