Walsh's Road to Gold
Michaela Walsh secured a unanimous decision over Jasmine Daunakamakama of Fiji in the women's featherweight semifinals. The 33-year-old Belfast fighter will look to win consecutive gold medals at the Commonwealth Games after her win four years ago. Her performance was tight in the opening round but she found her rhythm in the following two to move into Saturday's final.
Walsh, who has won a medal at each of her four Games appearances, will face India's Jaismine Jaismine in the final. But for now, she plans to enjoy her victory and complete her daily Irish language lesson on the Duolingo app. Walsh has maintained a 300-day streak in the lessons and sees it as a way to unwind before the final bout.
Kaci Rock made an emotional semifinal victory after overcoming a tough opening round against Scotland's Caitlyn Rainey. The 23-year-old bounced back in a tighter second round before pressing forward in the third to win by split decision. She will now take on England's Sacha Hickey in the final.
Rock, who has already won bronze, said the win means a great deal to her. After a back-and-forth battle, she found the strength to push through and claimed her place in the final. She admitted being down in the first round brought panic, but her resilience helped her come back strong.
Three More NI Boxers in Action
Three more Team Northern Ireland boxers are set to compete in their gold medal bouts on Friday. Jon McConnell faces Sonny Kerr at 16:15 BST, while Garyn McAllister takes on Connor Williams from Wales at 16:30 in the men's heavyweight division. Jude Gallagher closes the day at 20:45 against Namibia's Tryagain Morning Ndevelo in the men's lightweight category.
