Capitals add offense, chase another title
The Washington Capitals went all-in this summer, targeting Alex Tuch to give their lineup more scoring punch and physicality. With Tuch in the fold, they've added depth and a proven two-way forward. At 28, Jordyn Kyrou still has time for a resurgence after a rough finish to the last season. The team also locked down Boone Jenner long-term and added Vincent Desharnais.
Nashville turns to young star Bourque
Mavrik Bourque, the 21-year-old with 20 goals last year, is the new face of the Nashville Predators’ offense. The team traded for him to bring in a forward who can carry the load in bigger roles. Along with Bourque, they also added Ross Colton and Jack Drury to the bottom six, aiming to fill holes in their lineup.
The Predators are still figuring out who will play where but clearly see Bourque as a key piece. 'They're building around him now,' said a former NHL assistant, noting the team’s long-term vision.
Rangers fix scoring concerns with Dorofeyev
General Manager Chris Drury made a bold play to acquire Pavel Dorofeyev, who's known for his ability to score. With Dorofeyev and Oliver Bjorkstrand (20+ goals last season), the Rangers are trying to solve a scoring problem.
The team also drafted Alberts Smits, who could see time this season if the rookie develops quickly.
Looking ahead to the 2026-27 season
For the Capitals, it might be the last shot for some core players. For the Rangers, it's another season of hoping their pieces fall into place.
The Predators, meanwhile, are trying to shift from a grinders’ team into one built around a young star.
