Middletown-Odessa-Townsend needed to win just one more game to reach the Junior Little League World Series. The Delaware champions had secured three one-run victories to earn a spot in the East Regional final. But on July 30, their hopes were shattered by New Jersey champion Freehold Township, which ended the bid with two decisive wins.

The first title game was a dramatic 12-11 contest. MOT had fallen behind 8-1 through five innings. It then staged a remarkable comeback by scoring three runs in the sixth and seven in the seventh to lead 11-8. But Freehold Township rallied in the bottom of the seventh with four runs to claim the game.

The deciding game was just as intense. Freehold Township scored four crucial runs in the sixth inning. MOT managed one run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough to overtake its opponent. The final score stood at 9-8 in favor of Freehold Township, ending MOT’s World Series dream.

Before the title games, Middletown-Odessa-Townsend had advanced through the regionals with key victories. It defeated Freehold Township 1-0 in the semifinals. Earlier in the tournament, it beat Pennsylvania’s East Side of West Chester 10-9 and Maine’s Portland 11-10 to reach the final.

MOT’s journey to regionals was just as dramatic. In the state tournament, it faced Naamans and lost 14-4. But the team bounced back with two decisive wins: 10-7 and 12-3 in rematches. These victories earned it a spot in the East Regional and set the stage for its World Series chase.
