Malaysia's Stock Market Gains Momentum Amid Global Trends
The Malaysia stock market has recorded a third consecutive session of gains, rising nearly 15 points or 0.9 percent overall. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) is now just shy of the 1,725-point level. Analysts suggest it may continue to gain strength again on Monday, as positive momentum builds in regional and global markets, according to Nasdaq.
Global market sentiment remains optimistic, particularly in the Asian region, with retail and energy sectors expected to drive the upward trend. European markets showed mixed results, while U.S. indices saw gains. This combination is likely to result in a split pattern among Asian markets, where some may perform better than others. In Malaysia, Friday's session saw financial and telecom stocks pushing the KLCI upward, but plantation sector shares weakened slightly, balancing the overall index movement.
Meanwhile, U.S. The NASDAQ was the standout performer, surging 1.00 percent after Amazon shares rose sharply due to better-than-expected revenue and growth in its cloud services. Crude oil prices climbed significantly on Friday, increasing 1.77 percent to $85.07 per barrel after Iran's military launched strikes on U.S. military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait.
Despite a notable increase in U.S. Treasury yields, which hit their highest levels since early 2025 in response to the rise in oil prices, traders remained largely unfazed. The 10-year yield rebounded sharply, but this did not dampen the positive outlook for equities. The KLCI, which closed at 1,724.90 after gaining 4.50 points or 0.26 percent on the day, remains a critical barometer of investor confidence in the region.
