Iowa State University’s men’s golf team has earned national recognition as four Cyclones—Paul Beauvy, Zach May, Owen Sawyer and Dianchao Wu—were named to the GCAA Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars list for the 2025-26 season. The university is among 81 NCAA Division I institutions with at least four student-athletes selected for the honor. This acknowledgment highlights not only their athletic achievements but also their dedication to excellence in the classroom.
Academic and Athletic Standards Set the Bar
To qualify for the GCAA Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars list, student-athletes must be in their sophomore, junior, or senior year both academically and athletically. They are required to have played in half their team's competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and carry a cumulative career GPA of at least 3.2. Additionally, nominees must demonstrate high moral character and maintain good standing at their university. These standards ensure that only the most accomplished student-athletes are recognized.
Beauvy, the top scorer for Iowa State this season with a 71.37 average, led the team to five Top 10 finishes and two of his career tournament wins. He qualified for his second NCAA Regional, tying for 51st. Beauvy’s career stroke average of 71.62 sets a program record. His achievements include a career-best 11 rounds in the 60's this season and a school record for stroke average over a career. These performances underscore his consistency and skill on the course.
May, from Christchurch, New Zealand, qualified for his first NCAA Regional and placed third in scoring for the team at 72.09, a career-best. He set a new personal record with a 65 in a single round and holds the program's best 72-hole score at a conference event. May's contributions to the team also include three Top 3 finishes this season. His career on the team has left him ranked 11th on the career stroke average list and is remembered for his record 72-hole score in a conference tournament.
Sawyer, the second-best scorer of the season for Iowa State with a 71.93 average, had his best 54-hole score of 205 at the N.I.T. and tied a career-low with a 66 in the final round. He has now played nine rounds in the 60's this year, more than in his first two seasons combined. Sawyer's career stroke average of 72.45 puts him sixth on the all-time list, and his performance has been consistently strong throughout the season.
Wu, who finished his season with a career-low 73.50 stroke average, tied his best 54-hole score of 215 at the Tiger Collegiate Invitational and matched the program's fourth-lowest 72-hole score in a conference tournament with a 287. Wu's performance at the Big 12 Championship, where he tied for 32nd, was particularly impressive. His contributions to the team this season reflect his steady improvement and dedication to the sport.
