Men’s and women’s wheelchair teams both deliver gold for England

England’s men’s 3x3 team made history by retaining their title from four years ago with a hard-fought 19-17 win over Australia in the final. Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye led the way with seven points, while 37-year-old Ashley Hamilton celebrated his first Commonwealth Games appearance after missing the 2018 and 2022 editions.

In the women’s wheelchair 3x3 final, England improved on their bronze from 2022 with an 18-10 victory over Scotland. Charlotte Moore, Lucy Robinson, and Jade Atkin, who were also part of the 2022 team, helped secure the win, repeating the same scoreline from their semi-final.

The England wheelchair men’s side fell 19-13 to Australia in the final, with Oscar Knight top-scoring for England with six points. Canada beat Scotland for bronze. Meanwhile, Australia closed the 3x3 basketball events with another gold, this time in the women’s final against Uganda, winning 21-11.

Anderson and Lautier-Ogunleye key for England’s men in final

Australia entered the men’s final looking for redemption from their 2022 loss, but England’s Anderson and Lautier-Ogunleye helped break the tie in the final moments, pushing England ahead 18-14. The victory was capped by a dominant semi-final win over New Zealand to set up the final rematch with Australia.

For Lautier-Ogunleye, the win was the culmination of years of preparation. For Hamilton, it was the personal achievement of a dream finally fulfilled. For England, it was the reward for building a program that now shows it can deliver at the highest level of 3x3 basketball.
