Unicharm's pet care business achieved 156.1 billion yen in sales during fiscal year 2025, a 5% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is a clear sign of the company's rising global influence, especially in the cat treats market, where it has officially declared DELECTABLES® as the world's leading wet cat treat brand.
From 2016 to global leader
The DELECTABLES® brand was first launched in 2016 by Hartz, Unicharm's U.S. subsidiary, and has since become a well-known product in households around the world. It features a range of interactive formats like Squeeze Up® and Lickable Spoon™, which promote direct bonding between cats and their owners through hand-feeding. The brand offers products for every stage of a cat's life, from kitten to senior, with a variety of recipes including non-seafood and catnip-infused options. This wide-ranging appeal has contributed to its strong consumer base and brand loyalty.
Global expansion plans
DELECTABLES® has not only thrived in its original markets of the United States and Canada, but it has also successfully expanded into new international regions such as Australia and Mexico. This expansion has been a crucial factor in the brand's ability to achieve the top position in the global wet cat treat market. Unicharm plans to utilize Japanese manufacturing technologies and customize products to meet local consumer needs in emerging markets. This approach is a key strategy under the company's newly launched 13th Mid-Term Management Plan.
In 2026, Unicharm made a major move into the Indian pet care market, signaling its intent to capitalize on the region's growing demand for pet products. Furthermore, the company acquired Nutrire, a premium pet food manufacturer, in Brazil. This acquisition is designed to provide a strong foundation for long-term growth in Brazil, which is recognized as the world's third-largest pet market.
