Under pressure at the end of the stroke-play portion of the U.S. Junior Amateur, Charlie Woods found himself in a 14-for-2 playoff at Saucon Valley Country Club. The 17-year-old was fighting for one of the final two slots into the 64-player match-play bracket.
As he stood on the par-5 14th hole and sought to reach the green in two, a fan's iPhone shutter went off during his backswing. The momentary distraction caused Woods to falter, and he finished the hole with a bogey, ending his chances at progressing.
Family and Background
Charlie, the son of Tiger Woods, is coached directly by his father and is expected to join the Florida State University golf team in the future. In a video shared on social media, he was seen reacting in frustration, saying 'Really, man?' and dropping his club after the interruption.
Earlier in June, Charlie had served as a caddie for his friend Miles Russell at the U.S. Open final qualifying event in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., gaining firsthand insight into competitive pressure.
This wasn't Woods' first attempt at securing a tournament berth. In February 2024, he entered the pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic, aiming for a spot in the PGA Tour event. Out of 25 players who advanced to the full qualifier, Charlie was not among the four who made it through.
Despite the setback, Woods continues to pursue his golfing goals, following in the footsteps of his father while establishing his own presence in the sport.
