Mirabai was accompanied by the chief national weightlifting coach during her visit to the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs. The meeting took place shortly after the athletes returned to India, where they were celebrated for their historic achievements and contributions to India’s medal haul at the tournament.
Breaking records and making history
Chanu made headlines by setting new Commonwealth Games records in both the snatch and clean and jerk events. She lifted 85kg in the snatch and an impressive 105kg in the clean and jerk, showcasing her dominance in the 48kg category. This performance not only earned her gold but also solidified her as the first female weightlifter to win three consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medals. Her success in Glasgow further helped India achieve an exceptional total of eight weightlifting medals, highlighting the strength and depth of the team.

Mirabai Chanu, hailing from Manipur, was greeted with a hero’s welcome upon her arrival at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday. Fans, family members, and supporters flocked to the airport to celebrate her return. They applauded her achievements that helped India finish fourth in the overall medal standings. India secured 39 total medals. During her arrival, Mirabai expressed her deep sense of pride for representing both her home state and the nation. She said, “Coming from Manipur, I feel really proud that I have done something good for my country.” This heartfelt moment resonated with her supporters.
