Debut full of promise, but no finish
Kasper Hogh arrived at Celtic with a £11m price tag and a reputation as Norway’s standout scorer. His first game with the club—a 1-0 league win over Dundee—showed promise, yet lacked the finishing touch. The new signing carried the ball into key areas, taking four shots inside the box, but none found the back of the net.
Hogh’s 0.88 xG was even higher than teammate Benjamin Nygren’s, who scored the winner with 0.86 xG. The Dane missed a big early opportunity, curling a shot from Nygren’s pass wide. He later scuffed another effort from a similar position and hit another just past the post, clearly showing his frustration.
Confidence remains, despite the blanks
Speaking after the match, Hogh was honest about his performance. “I need some shooting practice,” he said on Sky Sports. “I just wanted to be on the pitch and help the team win.” The 24-year-old admitted he was disappointed not to score but reminded everyone this was his first game in a new environment and league.
His physical presence was notable, too. Hogh won four of his seven aerial battles, a number matched only by defenders Carter-Vickers and Trusty. He also tallied five successful duels from 11 attempts, trailing only Yang Hyun-jun in that category.
Adapting to a new surface
Hogh also acknowledged the challenge of switching to natural grass. Most of his time at Bodo/Glimt was played on artificial turf. “I need to get used to the grass,” he admitted. “I was just happy to be out there.” While his joy is clear, the coming weeks will be a test of whether his early potential leads to goals for the Hoops.
