Baldur’s Gate 3, launched in 2023, now features a new third-person mod that gives players the ability to switch between camera views. The mod was uploaded to Nexus mods by user Relysia.
The new mod by Relysia expands on a previously released camera tweak mod. It introduces the option to toggle between an over-the-shoulder view and a standard perspective.
Better camera control
The updated third-person mod offers more freedom in adjusting the camera. In the original game, close view settings limited the ability to look up or down. The new mod lets players control the camera with a button press, keeping it locked on the character while adjusting the field of view during running or crouching.
Camera adjustments during combat
The mod automatically shifts to a distant camera during combat and turn-based sections, then returns to a close view afterward. Relysia suggests using a controller for best results, though a keyboard is also supported. Some bugs remain, but a “fix stuck camera” button helps resolve problematic angles. Relysia included a video comparing the new mod to previous versions, and the mod is still in development with future updates planned.
In the past year, modders revealed a project to recreate the original Baldur’s Gate within Baldur’s Gate 3. Unconfirmed rumors also suggest remakes of both Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2 are being discussed, though no official announcement has come from Wizards of the Coast.
A Baldur’s Gate TV show is being developed, but Baldur’s Gate 4 seems to have hit some roadblocks. One developer declined to take on the project, citing a desire to not follow up on Larian Studios’ work.
